Our recent Autism Informed Fashion event was relaxed, friendly evening exploring clothing, comfort, and self-expression.
We began by hearing from Becca on her lived experience as someone who worked in the fashion industry. She shared about that experience as an undiagnosed autistic women at that time and gave tips on buying/selecting clothing.—People then had a chance to share how they choose what to wear, where they like to shop, and why some prefer ordering the same items in multiples. These conversations highlighted how clothing choices can reflect both sensory comfort and personal identity.
A presentation on sensory-friendly fashion brands and current trends sparked great discussion. Together, we explored colour schemes that work well, ways to combine comfort with style, and how to find sustainable or second-hand treasures. Audience members shared their own tips and favourite finds, adding to the collaborative, creative atmosphere.
The fashion show was a particular highlight—participants, including the author of this blog, proudly took to the catwalk to showcase outfits they enjoy wearing.
We wrapped up the day with a fun fashion quiz.
On a personal note, I really enjoyed participating in this event: receiving personal fashion advice, helping to run a friendly quiz and listening to the many varied opinions on what makes a great look!
