ALAG AHI event – Autism and PTSD
Tuesday 4 February 2025
19:00 to 20:30
Autism and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can intersect, but, PTSD has traditionally been under-researched in autistic people, with much of what we know about this mental health condition being based off the non-autistic experiences.
Presented by Alison Quinton, the event will cover:
- Findings of current research on PTSD in autistic people;
- Why researchers think that this group may be particularly vulnerable, and
- How this knowledge can be implemented when thinking about supporting autistic people.
- Challenges of diagnosis, what PTSD treatments show the most promise, and the importance of preventing trauma from happening in the first place.
Within the Q&A discussions, we would be excited to hear your reflections on what you think should be the next direction for research in this space.
About the speaker:
Alice Quinton, final year PhD student at the at the Re:Spect Lab, King’s Collge London that is led by Professor Francesca Happé.
Alice Quinton’s research focuses on PTSD and trauma experiences in autistic young people by analysing of existing datasets and gathering qualitative insights about diagnosis and support from clinicians and teachers.
