Maybe it was the sunny spring evening, soon after the clocks had gone forward. Maybe it was autism awareness week. Maybe it was the prospect of the lively evening event. But, the first in-person event of 2025 was particularly well attended.
Autistic people shared their special interests to start the evening. One autistic speaker spoke about their interest in developing writing skills to review events, books and other cultural activities. they also reflected on autism awareness. The second speaker discussed their special interest in home baking particularly in making chocolate. This struck discussion on baking with chocolate among those who attended.
Next up was time for music. With guitar from an ALAG member and Jill Bradford on the flute, the audience listened to two renditions of classic songs. This led us in to time for a break, to socialise or to have a snack before we moved on to the next part of the session.
Many chose to get involved with the craft activity, making thread bracelets. Thank you to our member who led this group, teaching how to make beautiful thread bracelets. Others, chose to stick around for the Bingo. This was my first attempt as a Bingo caller – it was a fast paced game with the added excitement of explaining the rules, spinning the machine generating random numbers and watching participants diligently completing their bingo cards.
An inspired evening of autism acceptance, fun and games.
