ALAG / Autism Hub invite you to an in-person workshop exploring social situations, communication and boundaries during the festive season.
The festive period can bring additional social expectations, invitations and changes to usual routines. Some autistic people may find these situations tiring, unclear or difficult to navigate, or may feel pressure to take part in social activities when they would prefer not to.
This practical workshop will explore ways to make choices about social events, communicate your needs and boundaries, and look after yourself during the festive season.
We will explore:
Social invitations- To accept or not, responding to verbal and written invites, declining invitations.
Before an event- Communicating before an event, clarifying and understanding roles, and expectations on the day.
During the event- Navigating small talk, looking after yourself, and how to make an exit during an event.
There is no expectation that there is one “right” way to socialise. The workshop will focus on practical strategies and choices that may help you navigate social situations in ways that work for you.
Facilitator
The workshop will be facilitated by Wendy Tuson- Speech and Language Therapist (SLT).
Wendy has worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in Camden and Islington for 24 years. For the past 10 years, she has also facilitated a communication group for autistic people.
*This event will be an in-person only event.
