Our August 2026 ALAG–Autism Hub Summer Social brought members together for an enjoyable evening exploring Travel & Photography, with plenty of opportunities to share experiences, memories and favourite destinations.

We began by welcoming trainee clinical psychologist Evie Rose, who introduced her research into the experiences of couples where one partner received an autism diagnosis later in life. Members listened with interest and asked thoughtful questions about the study and its aims. 

Our travel discussion covered a wide range of topics. Participants talked about what influences their choice of destination, preferred modes of transport, travelling with a sunflower lanyard, preparing for language barriers and how travel blogs and online research can help when planning a trip. Trains featured as both a practical way to travel and an enjoyable part of the journey itself.

Members then enjoyed a slideshow of photographs submitted by the group, which prompted stories and conversations about memorable holidays and favourite places. Destinations included repeat visits to Malta, scuba diving adventures, travelling above the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights, and the role photographs play in preserving special travel memories. Many agreed that good weather can make a memorable trip even more enjoyable.

The evening was lively, welcoming and full of shared experiences.
