Autism and Managing Comorbidities
Tuesday 07 May 2024
19:00 to 20:30
Online Only Event
ALAG and the Autism Hub invite you to an online evening event covering Autism and Comorbidities.
The prevalence of comorbid conditions in autistic individuals is significant. It is estimated that over 70% of autistic people will have a co-occuring mental health condition, for example. Other comordidites include physical health conditions, developmental or neurodivergent conditions.
Autistic people face stark health inequalities that is not necessarily associated with their autism, but rather due to poor access to healthcare. Better management and treatment of comorbid conditions and improved healthcare access can lead to better lifelong outcomes for autistic individuals.
The event will have contributions from people with lived experiences, and will explore:
- The diagnosis journey – routes to diagnosis of comorbidities and diagnostic sequence
- Access to public services – service provision, quality of service, relevance of service to circumstances
- Post diagnostic support
- Personal management of comorbidities: therapeutic support, user groups, services, treatment
After this session, we will be joined by two clinical psychologists to provide information about the Autism and Older people workstream they are leading on.
**This is an online event only and will not be recorded. The slides will be sent out after the event. To find out more or to register your interest, please complete our contact form.
